Our Story

Miss Rebecca

Rebecca is founder and director of Little Friends Learning Loft, where she's built a thriving Montessori school focused on practical life skills, child-led exploration, and the power of play.

A former Girl Scout who trained in the culinary world before moving to education, she developed appreciation for hands-on skill-building and creating something tangible. At Kinship, she creates all programming and helps foster community relationships while raising her two daughters (ages 7 and 9) in Newburgh.

An adult man and a young girl, both wearing orange shirts and carrying backpacks, sitting together against a black background. The man has a beard, is wearing a black cap and sunglasses, and the girl has a colorful cap and pink patterned leggings.

Joshua Brown

For over 25 years, Joshua has run his own photography and filmmaking business, bringing creative expertise and entrepreneurial experience to Kinship. He worked as a Creative at Apple, teaching technical and creative skills through personalized instruction.

A former Scout and summer camp counselor, Joshua contributes creative instruction and business experience that keeps quality programming accessible to the Newburgh community where he lives with his family and 7 year old daughter.

What We Believe

  • Kids are naturally capable

With real responsibilities and thoughtful guidance, children show us what they’re capable of. When a 7-year-old measures, cuts, and assembles their first wooden project, or a 9-year-old runs a lemonade stand, they discover their own abilities through hands-on experience and community support.

  • Community Holds Incredible Wisdom

Your neighbor the carpenter has skills no textbook can teach. The baker down the street understands math through recipes and running a business. The artist next door sees the world in ways that spark creativity. Kinship creates the bridge between community expertise and eager young learners, enriching our programs with authentic, real-world knowledge.

  • Families Thrive Together

Parenting is easier when we do it together. When families connect through shared experiences, everyone grows—parents find friends who understand the daily juggle, kids see learning happen naturally in community, and our neighborhood becomes a true support system. That’s why Kinship welcomes whole families, creating space for genuine connection alongside practical learning.
